3 tips for if your bass disappears on phone speakers. i wanted to include a bit about why this actually happens bc I feel like people just accept it and move on but understanding the fundamental isn’t coming through is the basis for why all three tips involve either creating or accentuating harmonics in either the production or the mix. Sometimes I will use a combination of all three of these depending on how much of the sub’s characteristic I am trying to preserve.

what does an LFO do? here’s a non-technical explanation i made for no reason. synth stuff all being named with acronyms (in this case, low frequency oscillator) is a fine way to describe what is actually happening sonically, but it can be tough for people to wrap their minds around until you really get used to synthesis. anyway, if you see the letters LFO on your synthesizer or in your music software and weren’t totally sure what it was, now you know what it does. go try it :)

the fastest I have ever fallen for a synth.. the Summit. 🏔️thanks @wearenovation for our continued partnership! been adding this to everything for months. fyi this is a hybrid synth which means it has digital FPGA oscillators (16 voices!) with an analog filter and true analog stereo signal path. for the girl who wants it all (me)

THEN - make the FM source LFO1, make that LFO slow and triangle - add brightness using positive exponential frequency mod - mode lowpass filter and up the resonance - up the decay on my envelope for more bounce

you can ignore gain staging until the moment you can’t anymore :) gain vs volume.. save this for later if you dk the difference

Fixed Chord (where you can hold down keys to make a chord which plays each time you press a key) exists on their smaller models too btw.

these are some of the production moves i pull when I’m trying to get my chorus to hit a little harder or be impactful in the production/mix. lmk if you have more tips for this :) honestly, so many of the courses I’ve been writing recently have been more of “drops” but for a classic chorus these work really well and are my go-tos.

this concept changed the way i make music on the computer + synths so i felt like talking about it. unless you’re making a genre where the exactness is the point, of course (shoutout hyperpop lol..) changing the velocity of your midi or humanizing it, pitch variation, some subtle filter mod all do wonders and you can do these within your daw or on most synths with the lfo. anything to add subtle movement basically
